Importance of nutrition in teenagers

The teenage years can be one of the most difficult phases of one’s life with the hormones raging rampart and dictating sudden mood swings. More often than not, this is a period marked by erratic eating habits as a typical teenager tries to run through a day, juggling his social and academic life and trying to remain high on the popularity chart by striving to adhere to an unhealthy body image.
However, this is also the time of rapid growth and development, which makes it all the more imperative that parents help their teenage kids make nutritional food choices and inculcate in them the importance to stick to a healthy diet. This is essential to strengthen the body’s immunity and bone structure and to prevent obesity.
A teenager can eat right both at home and with friends by eating small-sized meals, reading nutrition labels and sticking to healthier beverages such as milk and fruit juices instead of sodas. Having cereals for breakfast and having a healthy lunch and dinner will ensure that he/she gets all the essential nutrients. Finally, pursuing an outdoor activity will also help their metabolism and help them remain in shape the healthy way instead of starving themselves.
